How to Keep Fit in Winter

As the days get colder and darker, getting out of bed is harder and getting back into bed is oh so much easier! That’s why we often see our motivation to exercise drop. It’s true, exercise becomes more difficult at this time of year, but it’s not impossible! And trust us, the physical and mental health benefits from exercising are worth it… so we’ve put together some top tips for staying fit this winter. 

 

Keep it social (when safe to do so of course)

Exercising with others keeps things fun and it keeps you in a good routine… why? Because not only do you enjoy it, but you and your buddy are in it together. It’s not hard to convince yourself to skip a session (or two), but if you have a buddy, you won’t want to let them down meaning you’re more likely to stick with it.

 

Layer up

Keep warm with under layers, gloves and hats. Have a jacket on standby for after your workout routine… our bodies cool down quickly once we stop moving.  

 

Variety is key

Few people enjoy doing the same thing again, and again… and again (you get the idea). Keep things interesting by mixing up your routine… that way, it will be way more enjoyable. You can thank us later!

 

Train at home

If it’s too cold or wet to venture outside… don’t worry! Work out in the comfort of your own home. You’ll find endless routines online. Choose from a free workout or sign up for a subscription service.  Swap out weights with a couple of tins cans… there are almost always equipment alternatives.

 

Rest up

We all need a rest sometimes and that’s ok! Listen to your body and take a day off when you need it. You’re better jumping back in refreshed rather than pushing yourself too far.
